Bureaucracy, you won this time
I forgot to apply for a grant. I needed this grant to follow an MA course in Graphic Design. I assumed that one can apply for a grant as soon as one is accepted at a university. In The Netherlands this is not how it works. You have to apply for a grant before a certain deadline. Even if you don’t know if you are accepted. I missed this deadline because I couldn’t imagine this is how things work. Bureaucracy won this time.
I worked pretty hard to get accepted. In order to not let this work go to a complete waste I share it here with you. I created a portfolio with links to some of the things I created this year. Apart from recent graphic design work you can also find three links to three essays I wrote, in which I tried to explain what I wanted to work on as part of my MA studies. One of the things I was really looking forward to was creating this practical, and educational web typography tool. There’s also this small post about the nature of colour on the web. And there’s this rather large piece about all the fun I had while I was playing with colour and random numbers on the web. I was looking forward to playing some more, but this time at an academic level. This will have to wait a year.
This is of course excellent news for my students. Instead of studying a good part of the next two years, I will be teaching. And since I have some extra time, I might start speaking at conferences again.
