A different battle
Today Maarten P Kappert posted this quote by South African pastor Xola Skosana. Mister Skosana explains that liberal whites and conscious blacks don’t want the same thing. And he concludes in saying that since we fight a different battle, whites cannot lead a black struggle.
This resonated with me. Yesterday I linked an article about women working in a male-dominated environment on the new Alphabettes site. I explained that I didn’t see this male dominance in the creative industry as a problem a few years ago. But now I do. And I’m trying to do something about it. By teaching, by finding female role models for my students, and by writing. This link by Maarten made me realise that I am a follower in this struggle for more equality. So apart from the few things I’m already doing, other things I should do is listen and point. Pointing to inspiring people. Pointing to fantastic designers. And listening to brilliant people who have important things to say.
Follow those links, don’t follow me.
