Nice, intimate show. Said “Oh, hello” to the guitarist and bass player as they walked by us to the stage, and the singer danced with us, while he did his usual walk through the crowd during the last song.
A nice festival in the center of Bristol. The crowd sings the songs in England, instead of shouting them, like they do in the Netherlands. We had a good time. I especially liked the Lambrini Girls, and even though I started to appreciate the Idles’ songs more, I still don’t like their attitude.
A grungy, poppy start turned into a good punk rock show, with some surprisingly nice spoken intermezzos. Had whisky and good conversation before and after the show.
Great show, and we had a great dinner before as well.
I had forgotten how much I listened to this band, and how important their music used to be for me. Incredible songs, not your plain middle of the road hardcore. Great show, that new singer did a fantastic job.
Good show. Some songs reminded us of dark, underground parties in the Silo in Amsterdam in the 90s.
Two very excellent, young punkrock bands. Love this young punkrock scene. Bought a Spurn tape, had a few good beers with Hilbert in the Melkweg Café.
Such a good band, and such a nice venue. Hilarious evening with Peer where we lost his keys and woke up his friends.
Very nice show. Excellent live performance. And a wonderful venue.
Hilarious yet excellent show of these two Brits who talk endlessly over music. Bought their record, they signed it.
Excellent show. Energy is indeed their currency.
Some good punking with Zeke and my colleague. Some other bands were nice as well. Left relatively early.
Brilliant show. Really, really good. We met Crimson, Echo and Kiki in the Milk restaurant, which was a nice surprise.
Nice small show in a tiny space.
Incredible, what a fantastic live band. First they played their own support show, and then they came back and rocked the place.
This was the last show by Achterlicht. Such a good band. It was also the release party of their third demo tape. We bought one. Burger Service played as support. Nice songs.
Excellent night out. The Protos kicked it off with a great gories-esque show. Great band, bought their record after the show. Doevoe was a good, rough hip hop act. And Ploegendienst absolutely rocked the stage. Fantastic, what a night. Kiki met many friends, I met Christiaan, Esmee and Nathalie.
Went to IJsland the movie first which was hilarious and very good. And then saw the show which was absolutely brilliant. Best anarchist record since anarchism became a thing.
Wonderful festival with eight young punk bands. So much energy, so much creativity. Fantastic. Clitteband, Maria Iskariot, Achterlicht and No Brains were brilliant. The other bands were nice as well.
Had a great time, saw some nice bands. Sho Madjozi, Islandman, dEUS, Deadletter, Nana Benz du Togo were really good.
Fantastic show. Raw, rough rock ’n’ roll. Or vuig as we say in Dutch.
A nice Ramones cover band.
It was more than 35 years ago I saw them live …
Beautiful concert with beautiful songs by my colleague Harold.
Excellent, surprising evening.
Frank put us on the guest list. I've seen better bands for free.
Excellent vibes. Friendly, cosy party with nice live music.
Finally saw Laster. A brilliant live show. Really, really good.
An overload of macho rock (with an excellent musical intermezzo by Tramhaus).
It started a bit clumsy, but so friendly and nice. And later it became really good, and in the end it became impressive with people on violin, recorder and some amazing pieces played brilliantly on piano.
Very, very good show. At first when the band of eight beautiful women got on stage I expected a gimmick, and the first song didn’t really help. But it turned out to be an incredibly powerful band with some amazing singers. Very, very good show. Dave Stewart was pretty good as well.
Amazing show. First time I was in a sold out Paradiso where everybody was silent.
Been waiting to see him for years now. Well worth the wait. Excellent show.
Zaphyria played at the party for Lucien’s book, Goudjakhals. Really liked them.
We drove to Groningen and watched Julianna Riolino. Wonderful voice. And then the same band switched position and turned into Daniel Romano’s Outfit and they completely rocked. Excellent show, and an excellent evening.
I wanted to see No Brains and we saw them. Marathon was nice again, and we liked Mood Bored and Library Card very much. Left early.
Finally saw Wine Lips. Very good band. It was too hot in there, so we left a bit early. The Desmonds were really good as well. We played Tartini’s Devil’s Sonatas by Andrew Manze really loud in the car on our way back. We drove right through a thunder storm. All in all, an excellent night out.
Saw quite some excellent bands, and had a fantastic time. Tramhaus were very good, Mulatu Astatke and his band were incredible. And I very much enjoyed the Spätburgunder they served in the German wine bars.
Excellent show. Hard, fast, with almost no pauses between songs. Went backstage for a second to say hi to Nathalie, who organises the european tour (I think). Saw a few songs by Rough Gutts and Evilcentric, both pretty good as well. Had a great night with Peer.
Chicks on Speed were supposed to play as a support act for Le Tigre. But Le Tigre had to cancel their show. So Baby's Berserk played as a support act for Chicks on Speed and they turned Paradiso into one big party. Excellent shows, and a wonderful crowd.
When I was thirteen I saw Claw Boys Claw in Zaandam. I stood in front and when John Cameron, the guitar player placed his foot in front of my nose I touched his shoe. Every time I tell this story to Kiki we laugh about it. Today Kiki stood in front and I saw her touch his shoe. Hahaha. It was a great, great show again. The Covids were the support act and they were pretty good as well.
A bizarre show of a Beatles cover band. At first people in the audience didn’t move at all, because, I guess, they think that people in a theatre shouldn’t move. During the final songs at last people stood up, so we did dance a little bit. There was a nice afterparty in the Amstelhaven café.
March was nice. The singer was a former student of JanJaap’s. She has a great voice, great stage presence. Nice live band. They were the support act for Lagwagon which isn’t my kind of music.
Brilliant festival. Bilk and Gurriers were fantastic. There were more good bands. Some of them were better if you looked elsewhere.
Great show. It was so busy that I couldn’t get back to Kiki and Katrien with the drinks. So the watched the show from the front, I watched it from the back. Excellent night nevertheless.
Jan-Jaap plays a role (and guitar) in this piece. I saw it last year and it was good again.
Excellent punk rock show. It was really very punk. Kleine Crack was pretty good as well. And the guitarist of L.A. Sagne took off his pants. We bought records and a t-shirt.
Very good show. What she does with her voice is incredible! We danced and danced and danced. Unfortunately they had humour near the end. Which wasn’t my humour. Warning for next time: leave their show before it ends.
They rocked the place.
Fantastic concert. Loved the fact that they had activist speakers as a supporting act instead of a band. Met a student and the daughter of friends, haha. Of course we bought a t-shirt.
It’s weird but I had never seen the Urban Dance Squad back in the 90s. I was a big fan back then. And rightly so. Rudeboy and DNA, together with an excellent live band, did a fantastic show in the old venue in the Melkweg. Absolutely brilliant.
The first support act, Achterlicht, was brilliant. And the Covids themselves rocked as well. Bought the record and a t-shirt for Kiki. Savage Beat played as well. Not my type.
Finally. We bought the tickets ages ago. This was the postponed show.
Saw a few amazing bands. Sarathy Korwar was amazing. And so was Bnny-Hunna.
Finally saw Leave Home, the band of Jens, a colleague of mine. Lots of fun in the Vondelbunker, under the bridge in the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. Filled with very young, and very old punks. Bep was pretty good as well.
Good loud garage rock from Groningen.
Nice songs, and the band was clearly enjoying themselves. They played all their songs, and then they played one song again as an encore.
Wonderful evening with fantastic shows by Tape Toy, Socks;SportsSocks, Fleur, POM, Teddy’s Hit, Prins S. en de Geit, Fire Horse, and Marathon. Great night.
This was the first year with proper live music, after corona. I saw as much as possible, and most of it was really good.
Such an excellent band. If possible, live even better than on their recordings.
Kick ass, rough festival. With, among others, ¡Pendejo!, Geishas of Doom, Stake, Dool, The Datsuns, Dopelord and The Monsters.
What a festival! With among others Derya Yıldırım, the Master Musicians of Jajouka, Cheikha Rabia & Esraa Warda.
Two fantastic bands. Wow.
Quite fun.
Quite impressive.
Very, very cool!
I was slightly disappointed. the sound was crap, and it seemed like the band wanted to go home. Amy was absolutely fantastic to watch though. Such a great role model for young punks.
Fantastic festival. We saw so many great bands! Hang Youth, Viagra Boys, Celeste, Arooj Aftab, among others.
Fantastic, what a show!
Incredible, what a show! So cool to finally watch her perform live on stage.
Very nice band! In a fun little venue with round windows on the ninth floor.
Ouch, that was painful to watch. The singer should have been in rehab, and not on stage.
Impressive show.
Very cool to finally watch them alive.
Absolutely brilliant, what a show! Managed to buy a ticket through ticketswap on the day itself.
I had no idea what to expect, other than that it would be fun to watch JanJaap perform. But it was a very cool show! Good music, and conceptually very interesting.
Such a fantastic band! And a fantastic show. It was a nice drive to and from Drachten from Amsterdam.
I went to see King Khan with Katrien, with The Covids as a support act. Very cool to finally see King Khan live, and the Skatecafé is the best place ever.
My good friend Jeroen asked if I wanted to join him. I had never heard of the band, and it was the first time in this gigantic hall. Great show, the amounts of noise you can get out of a bass and a drum is just impressive.
2022 was the first year that I started noting live concerts. But of course I’ve seen many more concerts in my life. Here’s an incomplete list of shows that I’ve seen, that made a lasting impression on me, and of which I was able to find the exact date. This list might grow a bit.
Impressive, and such a strange gig. Everyone had to sit down and keep 1.5 meters distance.
Beautiful show with fantastic musicians who were having a great time. Bought her first record after the show.
Excellent show. A nice contrast with the pop show that was played in the main hall. It caused some confusion among young visitors who realised they were in the wrong hall when this very high energy band started.
Kiki’s very first concert, while thirteen. And also Claw Boys Claw, just like the very first show that I saw, also when I was thirteen. I told the singer, Peter te Bos about this fact before the show started. Very good concert. It was during a very short period during covid that a few shows could go through.
Fantastic concert.
I had just started listening to African music when Katrien told me there would be an African band playing in Paradiso. I asked her jokingly if it was Dieuf-Dieul de Thiès, a band that, I assumed, had ceased to exist somewhere in the seventies. It turned out it was Dieuf-Dieul de Thiès. A fantastic, fantastic evening. So incredibly good.
I’ve seen many Monster Magnet gigs. In Ancienne Belgique in Bruxelles I saw them with Jeroen, I’ve seen them quite a few times in Amsterdam, in Eindhoven, and on all kinds of bigger and smaller festivals: I’ve even shared a tiny plane with them on our way to Hellfest. This was the last show I saw.
Fantastic band, fantastic show in a rather special venue. I bought their crazy over-the-top t-shirt with an oversized skull with a beard. Kiki still wears it.
A bizarre contrast. All these friendly hippys and peaceful buddhists demonstrating for freedom in Tibet, and then there’s the singer of Peter Pan shouting that This next song is for the beer, for the women, and for fucking Tibet
. Right on the central square of Amsterdam. Of course with Dikke Dennis mooning. Legendary weird.
This night I learned about Melt-Banana. I will never forget.
I was completely blown away. Peter Pan (without Speedrock, back then) was an absolute top band. This show inspired me to listen to more filthy rock.
Unbelievable, what a show! He just kept on rocking, so hard! When the public was completely exhausted he paused a few minutes and then came back for a one hour encore with his hardest songs. Legendary.
I was standing on the balcony at the back of this pretty small venue and I vividly remember the heat that came from the flamethrower (you can see it around 57 minutes in the video). An incredible show. The next time I saw them they played in the largest tent at a Lowlands festival.
I arrived in San Fransisco on a Friday. I browsed through a local zine to see if anything was on that night. And wow, a spoken word by Jello Biafra! With a gig by DOA afterwards! The ticket booth at the Great American Music Hall closed literally in front of me. I successfully convinced them that they should let me in. It was a great show.
My first Lowlands festival. It was such a good feeling to be there. I can’t remember any of the shows. I do remember talking to the singer of dEUS all night long though in the 24 hours party tent.
Ajax won the UEFA-cup finals, and right when a insane crowd was celebrating this on the Leidseplein, I was in the Melkweg 50 meters from there with a handful of freaks watching the incredible Gories. I still have a signed album I bought that night.
I was a big fan of this band. (their first two albums are still fantastic). After the show we didn’t have a place to sleep. So we took the last train to Boxtel of all places and waited there in the freezing cold for the first train to arrive. Hahaha.
We were stage diving all the time, you might even spot a much younger me in this video of the show. You might even spot the backwards jump that I made. I woke up quite some time later in the Melkweg art gallery. The audience decided to disappear when dived on them, I landed on the concrete floor instead. More shit went wrong that night, it is kind of mythical, both in good and bad ways. No, scratch that, it was mythical in very bad ways.
The thing I remember most about this concert is that the presenter of the festival got on stage, right before the peppers where supposed to start, and asked the crowd to please be silent because she had to make a few announcements, and that the peppers couldn’t start before she announced them. You might understand that the crowd did not agree and started making even more noise.
Incredibly rough night. I can only remember the walk back to Eef’s house in the Albert Cuypstraat. That skin was walking over parked cars. I thought that was impressive.
Much, much later my colleague Yuri told me he was one of the organisers of that show!
My very first live concert. I touched the guitar player’s shoe. And weeks later I was still in shock about that pogoing crowd.
